Frequently Asked Questions
Three Parties, Not Two, and That Changes Everything
An employee relocation has you, us, and somebody in an HR or admin team with a budget line and a process. That third party is what makes corporate work different from residential work, and almost every problem on these jobs is a paperwork problem rather than a moving one.
They usually want a written quotation on letterhead before anything is confirmed, they frequently want two or three quotations to compare, and they nearly always want a GST invoice at the end that matches the quotation exactly. None of that is difficult. It's only a problem when it's discovered late, which is why we ask at the first call whether an employer is paying.
Give us the billing name, the billing address and the GST number at the survey rather than afterwards. An invoice raised in the wrong name is very hard to correct and it is the single commonest reason a reimbursement gets stuck on somebody's desk for a month.
The Policy Cap, and What to Do When Your Household Exceeds It
Employers approve a figure based on a policy, and policies are written around a notional household, usually about a two bedroom flat. Real households are frequently larger. What you don't want is to discover the gap on the day, because at that point you're choosing between paying a difference you didn't budget for and leaving things behind.
So we survey properly and give you the real figure early. If it sits above the cap you have weeks to go back and ask, and employers grant a documented overage far more often than people expect when there's a written survey to point at. A verbal request three days before the move rarely lands the same way.
Read the policy for what it excludes as much as what it covers. Vehicles are the item most often left out, and people find that at the reimbursement stage. Insurance is the second. Neither is expensive to add if you know in advance.
Comparing Quotes Without Being Misled
If your employer wants comparative quotes, make every mover answer the same three questions in writing: is material included, does the figure cover loading and unloading, and what happens if a second vehicle is needed. Otherwise you're comparing a number that includes material and insurance against one that doesn't, and the cheaper looking one usually isn't.
We'll write the scope out line by line so it can be laid next to somebody else's honestly. That's in our interest as much as yours, because a quote that loses on a fair comparison is a quote we'd rather lose than win on a misunderstanding.
A figure well below the bottom of a published band is a warning rather than a bargain. Somebody is either planning to add to it later or planning to send two people to do a four person job.
Timing Around Approvals, Joining Dates and Notice Periods
Company approvals move at their own pace and your notice period doesn't wait for them. Where a date is firm but the approval isn't, we'll hold the slot on your word and confirm on their paperwork, and if it falls through nobody is out of pocket. That's a small courtesy and it removes most of the anxiety from an already busy fortnight.
For people arriving rather than leaving, don't book the unloading crew until the vehicle is genuinely close. Long distance arrival dates slip by a day fairly often, and a crew booked and stood down still costs somebody money.
And if you're moving into company provided or allotted housing you haven't seen, say so. We size the vehicle a little generously and keep the large furniture accessible in the load, so a piece that won't fit through a door can be set aside without unloading everything behind it.
What Corporate Shifting Costs
| Job | Price | What decides it |
|---|---|---|
| Single professional on transfer | ₹3,500 – ₹6,500 | Usually well inside a standard cap. Invoice detail matters more than price. |
| Family relocating on a company transfer | ₹6,000 – ₹10,500 | The commonest corporate job. Survey early if a policy cap is involved. |
| Senior transfer, full household and two vehicles | ₹9,000 – ₹16,000 | Frequently exceeds a standard cap, which is a conversation worth having early. |
| Office or team space element | After Survey | Priced on downtime and desk count, and quoted to the company rather than to you. |
| Car claimed against a relocation policy | ₹6,000 – ₹12,000 | Reimbursable only if the invoice carries the company name from day one. |
| Bike as part of a reimbursed relocation | ₹2,500 – ₹5,500 | Often excluded from policy. Check rather than assuming it is covered. |
Local moves start at ₹2,999. Interstate work is charged on distance bands of ₹15 to ₹28 per KM depending on the distance, quoted separately from the load so you can see both figures.
What Corporate Shifting Does Not Include
Worth reading before you book. A mover who tells you this afterwards has cost you a day.
- We do not raise an invoice to a different entity after the job. The billing name and GST number are needed at the survey, not afterwards.
- We do not negotiate with your employer on your behalf, or advise on what a policy should cover. We give you a documented figure to take to them.
- We do not absorb repeated short notice date changes. One slip while an approval works through is normal and free; a pattern of them is not.
- We do not decide what your employer will reimburse. Read the policy for exclusions, because vehicles and insurance are the usual gaps.
- We do not disconnect or reconnect IT, servers or networks on an office element of a corporate move. That belongs to your own team or vendor.
More Questions About Corporate Shifting
My company is paying. What do you need from me?
The billing name, the billing address, the GST number if there is one, and a copy of what the policy actually covers. All of it at the survey rather than afterwards. An invoice raised in the wrong name is the commonest reason a reimbursement gets stuck, and it is awkward to unpick later.
Can you send a quotation my HR team can compare?
Yes, on letterhead and scoped line by line so it can be laid next to somebody else's. Do ask the other movers for the same scope. A quote that leaves out material and insurance looks cheaper and is not, and HR teams comparing headline figures get caught by that regularly.
What if the move costs more than my company approved?
You want to know that six weeks out, not on the morning. We survey properly and give you the real figure, and if it sits above the cap you have a written survey to go back with. Employers agree to a documented overage far more often than people assume.
Will you hold a date before my approval comes through?
Yes, on your word, and we confirm properly once the paperwork lands. Approvals and notice periods run on different clocks and there is no reason you should absorb that. If it falls through, nobody owes anybody anything.
Is my car or bike covered by a relocation policy?
Sometimes, and it is worth checking rather than assuming. Vehicles are the item most often excluded from a standard policy and people find out at the reimbursement stage. If it is not covered we quote it separately so the position is clean either way.
I am moving into company housing I have not seen. How do you plan that?
By making the plan survive being wrong. We size the vehicle a little generously, keep the large furniture accessible rather than buried, and agree in advance what happens to a piece that will not go in. Ask the allotting office for door widths before anything else.
How much notice do you need?
Two to three weeks, and talk to us as soon as the posting is known even if the date is not. The early conversation costs nothing and it means the billing, the cap question and the vehicle are settled long before anything depends on them.
